Samuel, Kings, and Chronicles: The Weight of the Crown

Through Samuel, Kings, and Chronicles, the Bible Book Series sits with Israel's monarchy. The people ask for a king like the nations (1 Samuel 8). God grants their request, yet He remains the true King. Saul's rise and fall, David's complicated faithfulness, and Solomon's wisdom and later decline all teach the same lesson: human crowns are heavy, and only God can finally secure His people.

Covenant and consequence

God makes a covenant with David, promising a house and a throne established forever (2 Samuel 7:12-16). That promise becomes a pillar of biblical hope. At the same time, Kings shows that unfaithfulness has consequences. Idolatry leads toward exile. The Lord is patient, but He is not indifferent.

Chronicles retells much of this history with a particular concern for worship, the temple, and hope beyond judgment. Even after failure, God's purposes are not finished.
