Advent: Waiting for the Promised King

As the church year turns toward Advent, Resonate the Word releases Advent, a Resonance Worship Series album that follows the long arc of messianic promise. Waiting is not empty time in Scripture. Waiting is faith stretched across years.

From the promise of Genesis 3:15 to the sign of Immanuel (Isaiah 7:14), from the child called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God (Isaiah 9:6) to the ruler from Bethlehem (Micah 5:2), the Old Testament teaches Israel to look for a King and Savior. The Gospels announce that the fullness of time has come (Galatians 4:4).

Already and not yet

Christ has come. Christ will come again. Advent trains both memories: gratitude for the incarnation and longing for the return of the King. "Surely I am coming soon," Jesus says. The church answers, "Amen. Come, Lord Jesus!" (Revelation 22:20).

Play Advent in December, but also whenever hope needs rehearsing. The promises of God do not expire. They find their Yes in Christ.
